Age verification in a world

The answer

Age verification inside a virtual world is unsolved: licensed gambling requires a verified adult before any deposit or play, while every major virtual world grants entry on an unverified account, and several have populations skewing heavily under eighteen. No world currently exposes an assurance a licensed operator could rely on, so the verification has to be performed by the venue, at the door, on every session.

Standing disclosure

Metaverse Casino holds no gambling licence and offers no wagering. This site publishes regulatory reference material only.

Nothing here is legal advice. Positions are dated, sourced to the regulator, and revised by publishing a new assessment rather than by editing an old one.

§ 01

Working it through

01What the rules require

British licensees must verify age before a customer can deposit or gamble, and identity soon after. Ontario and New Jersey impose equivalent controls with continuous location checking. None of these obligations soften inside a world; they simply arrive in an environment with no supporting infrastructure and no platform attestation to lean on.

02Why the platform cannot help you

Wallet-based worlds are pseudonymous by design: the address proves control of a key and nothing about the person. Publisher-run platforms hold real account data but expose no gambling-grade age assurance to third-party developers, and the largest of them have populations in which minors are the majority. Building a licensed venue on top of either means treating every arriving avatar as unverified until the venue itself proves otherwise.

03The one structural route

The credible answer is a verifiable credential the player holds and presents — an assurance issued once by a party that checked, then shown to any venue without re-disclosing the underlying documents. That is exactly the portable-standing condition the studio scores every world against, and its absence is why a compliant in-world venue is currently a claim rather than a thing. Until it exists, the honest position is that the problem is open.

The other two questions

A world has no jurisdiction. A person does.

The test is redemption, not denomination.
