## The substance

### 01 A supply-side test

The Online Gambling Regulation Act 2001 attaches to gambling conducted from the Island. That is the opposite of the British test: the UK follows the player, the Isle of Man follows the operation. A venue can therefore need both licences at once, for different reasons, and neither substitutes for the other.

### 02 Cryptoassets as a funding method

The Commission has published anti-money-laundering guidance covering convertible virtual currencies as a means of funding play, with source-of-funds obligations that do not soften because a deposit arrived on-chain. For an in-world venue this matters more than any other rule on this page: it is the difference between a token deposit being a compliance route and being an unmanaged risk.

### 03 Segregation and player funds

Licensees are required to hold player funds in a way that survives the operator failing. A venue holding balances in an in-world token has to answer what "segregated" means for an asset whose price moves — a question the framework asks and does not answer for you.
